Quick DIY Home Improvements for a Fresh Look this Christmas

It’s that time of year when houses go through a spectacular transformation from ordinary home to Christmas grotto. But underneath the splendour of all the tinsel and twinkling lights does your home décor look a little dull? Maybe now is the perfect time to get messy so that your home looks fresh and clean, ready for the festivities.

Paint It Merry and Bright

A fresh coat of paint is always a great quick fix for brightening up any room. But you don’t have to go the whole hog and repaint all the walls. A lick of paint can be a quick way to refresh tired looking cabinets, tidy up shabby skirting boards or brighten up your windowsills.

Or maybe it’s time to dig out the sandpaper to sand down and revarnish to add that lustre and shine back into your favourite furniture.

Ceiling Splendour

When was the last time you paid attention to the loft hatch? Give it a second look while you’re getting the decorations down, it might be time for a replacement access door.

Now’s a good time to talk about ceilings. Another contender for a paint makeover, a freshly painted ceiling can brighten up any room. And don’t forget to give a little TLC to your coving and cornices whilst you are up there.

For the wow factor add a statement light fitting.

Bathrooms and Baubles

Bathrooms can often be overlooked at this time of year, but now is a great time to give it a once over, especially if there is a hint of hope of being able to have family over to visit. Update tired tiling with fresh grouting and sealant. Or give the place a new look by replacing taps, toilet roll holders and out of date bathroom storage.

Dashing in the Detail

Ok we know it’s “the devil is in the detail”, but that doesn’t sound very festive. Here’s some quick swaps you can make in any room. These small changes can have a big impact.

  • Choosing a new style of door handle for your interior doors
  • Changing the handles on kitchen cupboards, wardrobes, sideboards and drawers
  • Update your light switches
  • Custom shelving tailored to fit your exact space
  • Put up new curtains, blinds or shutters
